Tis The Season

Growing up, a steadfast tradition in my family was that the Christmas Season did not begin until after Santa made his debut at the end of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. According to my Mom, this was how it was when she was a child - no stores sold Christmas items, no Christmas ads on TV, and certainly no carols until after Thanksgiving - which to her, as you can imagine, was very magical. While Christmas is one of my favorite seasons, I’m not thrilled that merchandize is creeping into stores before Halloween these days. New York, it seems, has similar feelings, because although you could see preparations being made, the festivities and decorations did really take hold until after the parade, including the numerous tree sellers that now dot the sidewalks. So here begins a Christmas season in New York City, one of the best cities, in my opinion, to celebrate in. And while the tree isn’t quite as grand as last year, we still made it work!
