Blackberry Bay Leaf Jam

Before making this blackberry bay leaf jam, I had never attempted any sort of canning, nor had I seen anyone else, and to be honest I was kind of intimidated. But with the aid of this helpful video, I put my nerves at ease and was able to pull off both the recipe and the canning process without a hitch. Whether you're a seasoned canner or just a beginner like me, this recipe will not disappoint as the bay leaf adds just the perfect amount of savory to balance the sweet, and the resulting jelly is nice and thick, reminiscent of the jam I got here. I'm so satisfied, in fact, that I may be whipping up more batches once we run out.

Fruits of Labor

Anthropologie Shirt and Pants (same pants, different color here), Freepeople Sunglasses

This past week I was on vacation in Upstate New York, where I grew up. It was so lovely to pass a lazy week spending time with my parents, lounging in the pool, and eating delicious food. One day we went berry picking at Hurd Orchards (blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are all in season right now), and picked nearly 13 pounds of berries. Ever since I've been creating all sorts of delicious, berry inspired treats, which I'll be happy to share this week.

Sneak a Peak

I thought it might be fun to share a few picture of my apartment. Unlike the places I lived in college, my current place really feels like home to me, especially since I have really spent the time to adjust every detail to be just the way I like it. I have a bunch of surprises and changes coming up, which I'll share once everything is certain, but in the mean time, enjoy!

Designer Spotlight: Sarah Richardson

One of my absolute favorite designers is Sarah Richardson of HGTV fame. The rooms she designs appear comfortable and livable, and perfectly layered with rich colors and vibrant fabrics. Unlike some designer rooms, which look too perfectly put together and more museum-like than home-like, her rooms make me want to curl up and live in them. She has two series on HGTV, "Sarah's House" where she buys, guts, and completely remodels and decorates a home, and "Sarah 101" where she redesigns a room in clients' homes and shares her tips and advice. As icing on her perfectly decorated cake, she has this fabulous sidekick Tommy who is super entertaining. Whether you're looking for a new design show or inspiration on your own rooms, I highly suggest you check out her work, she's just amazing. Do you have any favorite designers? Please share, I'd love to hear.

Summer Nights

Kate Spade Clutch, Club Monaco Blouse, Gap Shorts, Jimmy Choo Wedges

For hot, summer date nights I like to mix casual and dressy elements, like cutoffs and a flowy blouse, to keep cool but also stay put together. It's also a great way to wear what would ordinarily be a work top during other occasions.

Mango Caprese

For a unique twist on a classic dish, I recently made caprese using mangos instead of tomatoes. The dish was simple to create and the end result was a wonderful balance of salty and sweet that also looked pretty. To replicate the easy dish:
  1. Cut mangos into thin square or rectangle pieces
  2. Slice fresh mozzarella in a similar fashion
  3. Stack the mango and mozzarella, alternating between the two
  4. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar of your choice (I used dark cherry)
  5. Sprinkle with a few flakes of sea salt
In less than 10 minutes you can have a delicious, beautiful appetizer that will wow the crowd. I was certainly impressed with the results!

Bar Cart Roundup

As a follow up to this post, I've been looking for bar carts I can buy to make my inspiration a reality. While there are a lot of carts on the market, many are super expensive which just won't cut it. I've included my six favorites so far, although I feel like a few trips to antique stores and flea markets may help me in my endeavors.
  1. Crate & Barrel: Libations Bar Cart $599
  2. Ikea: RÅSKOG Kitchen Cart $49.99
  3. Society Social: The Tripple Trolley $439
  4. Harbor Freight Tools: Steel Tool Cart $74.99
  5. Serena & Lilly: South Seas Bar Cart $395
  6. Overstock.com: 2-Tier Serving Cart $96.98

Color Run

This weekend I ran my first 5K - The Color Run. In full disclosure, it's more of a fun time with friends than a race, they don't even time you, but it was an accomplishment none the less. At each kilometer, volunteers dowse you in colored powder so that by the end you look like a rainbow and are hardly recognizable to family and friends. Overall a great success and I'm happy I did it. If there's a run in your area, I highly recommend trying it out!

xx Molly

Over 23,000 people ran, making it the third largest 5K in the country!

Nice, white, and clean before the run.

Colored!

We looked like we had some rare Amazonian disease.

Clouds of color at the finish line festival.
