Gateway Arch

Another stop on my business trip travels brought me to St Louis. It was my first time in the city, and although I spent the majority of my time working in the suburbs, I managed to sneak in an hour to visit the famous Gateway Arch. The arch is shockingly tall (in fact it's the tallest man-made monument in the United States), and stunningly beautiful. My personal aesthetic has always leaned more towards the natural than steel but this can certainly be considered an exception. On a sunny day, the metal glistens, and it is just lovely. The arch was built from 1963 to 1965 as a monument to westward expansion and cost approximately $90.5 million in today's dollars. Something I didn't realize until I arrived, you can take a teeny, tiny elevator up to the top to enjoy the view. Although, certainly not for the claustro or Acro phobic, it is otherwise certainly worth the climb!
