Fresh watermelon puree and wild mint margaritas

One of my favorite things about Philadelphia is the plethora of little independent restaurants that are unique and delicious. Because of Pennsylvania liquor laws, many eateries in Philly are BYOB (bring your own bottle) where you can enjoy your own bottle of wine (or liquor) with no corkage fee. It's a great way to keep costs low, as drinks typically run up a bill, but also ensures that you'll always like what you're drinking. One of my favorite BYOs is Lolita, a fresh, modern Mexican restaurant that is tasty, healthy, and perfectly accommodating to vegetarians. The menu always has a few items that can be modified with grilled portobello or seared tofu to transform an item into a tasty veggie meal. My boyfriend and I never dine there without a bottle of tequila (we like Cazadores, it's smooth, flavorful, and inexpensive) as our favorite thing about the restaurant is the perfectly fresh and flavored fruit purée margarita mixes. The fruit options change seasonally, but we've tried blood orange, strawberry, lime, and watermelon - all of which were delicious. We've never had a bad meal here and I would recommend it to any Philly visitor or local.

  1. I love Lolita! Soooo good.

  2. I know right? There other restaurants Bindi and Barbuzzo are delicious too, but Lolita is definitely my favorite.
